FAQ

What is a submarine fiber cable?

Submarine fiber cables are cables made of fiber optics laid beneath the sea to carry telecommunications between countries.

Submarine cables carry telephony traffic as well as data communications traffic, such as internet broadband, VoIP, IP-TV and other IP-Based services.

Why fiber optics?

Communication cables were first made of copper, but now it is more common to build cables using fiber optics for numerous reasons, mainly:
  • Fiber optic cables can carry much higher capacity compared to copper cables at a much lower cost.
  • Low power consumption, light weight, less volume, etc… made fiber optics the first choice for building communications cables whether submarine or terrestrial.
